Rental company vs. Joldar: what’s the difference and who benefits from what.
In short
At a rental company you get a “class”; on Joldar you get a specific car. At a rental company the final price is settled at the counter; on Joldar you see the full price before you pay. At a rental company you pick up the keys at the office; on Joldar the host brings the car to a meeting point or to the airport.
Compared with a rental company
- Price
- Joldar: the host sets the price, with no office or fleet overhead; from 9 000 ₸ per day in the first fleet. Rental company: the price depends on the company’s rates, the season and add-ons sold at the counter.
- Choice
- Joldar: a specific car, with its photos, year, mileage and reviews of the host. Rental company: “this class or similar”; you find out which car when you get the keys.
- Lines
- Joldar: no counter, no paperwork; check-in takes a few minutes in the app. Rental company: a line at the office, contract and handover report on paper.
- Delivery
- Joldar: the host brings the car to the airport or your address; the host sets the fee, and some deliver for free. Rental company: pick-up at the office or the company’s delivery rate.
- Hidden fees
- Joldar: trip price, 10% service fee, protection plan and delivery, all on one screen before you pay. Rental company: extra terms and fees may be buried in the contract.
- Deposit
- Joldar: 30 000–150 000 ₸ depending on the car class is held on your card, not charged, and released within 3 business days after the trip. Rental company: the company sets both the amount and the refund time.
- Long trips
- Joldar: −10% from 7 days and −25% from 30 days, automatically. Rental company: discounts depend on the company.
Benefits for renters
- A specific car. The car in the photos is the car you get. 8 photos, specs, rules and reviews of the host.
- Instant booking. Cars with the “Instant” badge are confirmed right away; for the rest, the host replies within 60 minutes.
- Verify once. Your ID card, driver’s license and selfie are uploaded once and not requested again on later trips.
- Free cancellation. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before the trip starts.
- Your choice of protection. Basic (0 ₸/day, 300 000 ₸ deductible), Standard (3 500 ₸, 100 000 ₸ deductible), Premium (6 000 ₸, 0 ₸ deductible).
- Photo report. At check-in and check-out both sides photograph the car, so you are never held responsible for an old scratch.
Benefits for hosts
- Your idle car earns money. You set the price and manage the calendar: which days it’s available and which days it’s blocked.
- Your share is 70, 80 or 90%. You choose the plan: the higher your share, the higher your damage liability (0 / 150 000 / 500 000 ₸).
- Only verified renters. 21+, at least 2 years of driving experience, documents verified.
- The deposit works for you: 30 000–150 000 ₸ is held depending on the car class. If there is damage or a fine, it is deducted from the deposit with photo evidence.
- Prices adjust automatically. +15% on weekends, −10% weekly, −25% monthly.
The trust system in brief
Renters pass a document check, cars pass moderation, and every trip starts and ends with a photo report. The deposit is held on the card, disputes are settled with photo evidence, and support is answered by people. Learn more on the Trust & safety page (/trust).
Who Joldar is not for
- Drivers under 21 or with less than 2 years of driving experience.
- Anyone who doesn’t want to pass a document check: booking without verification isn’t possible.
- Anyone who wants to take a car out of the city or abroad without the host’s permission. Check the Rules section on each car page.
